Extended walk Monday 3rd April 2023
This month’s extended walk will be a historical walk around Battersea Park and Battersea Power Station. See attached map of the route from Victoria Station. The walk will be about 6 miles long in total including the walk around the power station.
The meeting point will be Swanley station. Please arrive by 09:30 to buy tickets to catch the 09:48 to Victoria, changing at Bromley South. The off peak return is £12.40 but for a group of three or more travelling together it’s a third off at £8.27. The suggestion is that we divide ourselves into groups of 3 or 4 people to make it easy to reimburse the person buying your ticket. Some people will have senior rail cards which will get them a third off anyway and others will have Oyster cards but if they are not linked to a senior rail card you could end up being charged the full off peak fare. There are no restrictions on return times for group saver off peak returns.
The walk will be led by Bob Brickell who will provide historical information about Chelsea Bridge, the Park from its inception through to its heyday, during the Festival of Britain, to the early 1970’s and, the Power Station to present day times.
Eating out at the Power Station is very expensive so Bob suggests that you take a packed lunch to eat in the park. There is a café in the park overlooking the lake if you prefer.
If you intend to go on this walk, would you please email Bob at robertbrickell50@gmail.com to say you will be going on the walk.
The following is a link to the Power Station website:
https://batterseapowerstation.co.uk
There is a lift within the chimney on the north western corner of the power station called lift 109 with a glass viewing dome that sticks out of the top of the chimney. Unfortunately, the first two weeks of April are all peak time tickets costing £21.45 each whereas off-peak tickets cost £15.90 each. Bob is also concerned that with a group of us trying to book times this may be difficult.
EXTENDED WALK 6th March, 2023
The next extended walk is on Monday 6th March, 2023 which will be a circular walk from The Golden Lion, Luddesdown Rd, Luddesdown, Kent, DA13 0XE, Tel: 01474 815 644, see attached map of the route. We can use the pubs car park.
The lunch stop will be at The Golden Lion and attached to this email is the menu.
