2012 Extended Walks

Below are the extended walks for 2012

26th November 2012

The assembly point for this walk is the One Tree Hill Car Park in Carter’s Hill, Underriver. Please arrive by 9.45am so that lunch orders can be taken and phoned ahead on the day to avoid delay. The walk will start at 10am and go along the Greensand Way, through Ightham Mote, Fairlawne Park, Ivy Hatch and Stone Street (Lunch Stop: The Padwell) The return route will be through Broadhoath Wood, Bitchet Green and One Tree Hill.

The walk will be lead by Alan Bodley and the total distance is 10 miles.

Directions: From Swanley, take the A20 Farningham and turn right on to A225 through Eynsford and Otford to the Traffic Lights at Bat & Ball Station. Turn left onto A25 (towards Seal). In Seal turn right into Park Lane (signposted; Godden Green – just after Pelican Crossing Lights by Kentish Yeoman) and keep right where the road forks (signposted Godden Green and Underriver) go through Godden Green after 1.25 miles there will be a junction on the right (Fawke Wood Road) the car park is approx 70yds beyond this on the left hand side. The Nearest post code is TN15 0SN (Carters Hill House, Carter Hill, Underriver, Sevenoaks;

NOTE: This is a house about 100yds beyond the car park up a track on the right).

29th October 2012

The assembly point for this walk is the Footscray Meadow Stable Block car park just off Rectory Lane in Foots Cray. Please arrive by 9.45am so that lunch orders can be taken and phoned ahead on the day to avoid delay. The walk will start at 10am and go through Chestnut Avenue over Penny Farthing Bridge and along the Cray Riverway Path (also part of the London Loop), Mount Mascal Farm Joyden’s Wood and Hook Green. Lunch will be at the Ship Inn in Puddledock Lane. The return Route will be through Birchwood Golf Course, Joyden’s Wood, Footscray Meadow, Five Arch Bridge, North Cray Meadow and Woods.

The walk will be lead by Alan Hayward and the total distance is 10 miles.

Directions: From Swanley, take the old A20 to Ruxley Roundabout. Take the 3rd Exit towards Footscray. At the traffic lights turn Right into Rectory Lane go through the width restriction pass All Saints Church, the Stable Block Car Park is on the right (signposted). Nearest post code is DA14 5HE (This is All Saints Church just before car park).

24th September 2012

The assembly point for this walk is the car park at Jeskyns Community Woodland, Henhurst Road Cobham. Please arrive by 9.45am so that lunch orders can be taken and phoned ahead on the day to avoid delay. The walk will start at 10am and go through Jeskyns Community Park and Meadow into Cobham, Cobham Park, Norwood Grove, Birchwood, Ranscombe Farm Park, Upper Bush and Cobhambury Wood into Henley Street where lunch will be taken at the Cock Inn. The return route will be through Reynold’s Farm, Sole Street, Nash Street and Ifield Court. The walk will be lead by Bob Brickell and the total distance is 10 miles. 

Directions: From Eynsford, Crockenhill, Orpington or Swanley, join the M25 to Junction 2 and take the A2 towards Dover. Exit the A2 for Gravesend (E). At the roundabout turn right and go over the A2 and follow the signposts for Sole Street. Jeskyns Community Woodland Car Park is just under 0.5 mile on the Left Hand Side. The post code is DA12 3AN.

20th August 2012

The assembly point for this walk is the public car park in Andrews Wood Shacklands Road, Badgers Mount. Please arrive in plenty of time so lunch orders to be taken and the walk to start at 9.45am. The walk will follow a route through Andrews Wood Meenfield Wood, Halstead and Knockholt to Chelsfield for lunch at the Five Bells. The return walk will be through Maypole, Hollows Wood, Badgers Mount, Jenkins Neck Wood and Andrews Wood.

The walk will be lead by Alan Hayward and the approximate distance is 9.5 miles.

Directions: From Eynsford, Crockenhill or Swanley join the M25 at junction 3 and leave at junction 4, follow the spur road to the roundabout. Take the 1st exit (A224) at the next roundabout take the 1st exit into Shacklands Road. The car park is approx 400yds on the right.

30th July 2012

The assembly point for this walk is the car park in Swanley Park at the end of The Birches. Please arrive early enough for lunch orders to be taken and the walk to start at  09.45am. The walk will follow a route from Swanley Park through 5 Wents, Farningham Woods, Franks Lane Darent Valley Path, Horton Kirby, South Darenth, and Darenth for lunch at the Chequers. The Return route will be via Sutton Place, Hawley, Hextable, and Five Wents.

The walk will be lead by Brian Barnes the distance is 10 miles.

Directions: From Batholomew Way in Swanley (behind ASDA turn into Sycamore Drive. At the end of the road turn left into Northview and then 1st right into The Spinney. Take the 2nd right into The Birches, the car park is at the end of the road.

25th June 2012

The assembly point for this walk will be The National Trust Car Park (free) at Coldrum Long Barrow just to the east of Trottiscliffe. Please arrive early enough for lunch orders to be taken and the walk to start at 10am.

The route will include Coldrum Long Barrow, Ryarsh Woods, Whitehorse Woods, Trosley Country Park, lunch stop will be The Vigo pub. The return route will include The North Downs Way and Pilgrims Way.

There are some steep climbs but the views over the Weald of Kent to both the East and the West should be worth it!

The walk will be lead by Alan Hayward and the distanc is 10 miles

Directions:  From Crockenhill & Eynsford take the A20 to Wrotham Heath. Go through the traffic lights (At the junction with the A25) and turn left into Ford Lane (just before the Vineyard Restaurant) signposted Trottiscliffe. Continue into Trottiscliffe Village passing The George Inn Pub on the left then turn right and continue through the village. The road bears right near the church and then turns left with houses on the right hand sign. Look out for signpost directing you to the car park for the Coldrum Long Barrow. The Post code is ME19 5EG and the Map Reference TQ 650607.

Note:      Parking is Limited – So please share cars where possible

28th May 2012

The assembly point for this walk is the car park of the Village Hall, Crockenhill. The walk starts at 9.45am and the route includes Pascals Wood, Hollow Wood, Badgers Mount and Andrew’s Wood, where there will be a brief stop for personnel refreshments. The walk will continue through Timberden Bottom and Meenfield Wood to the lunch stop at the Crown in Shoreham. The return route will include Lullingstone Park.

The walk will be lead by Roger Smith

Some steep hills are involved and the approximate distance is 9 miles.

30th April 2012

The assembly point is the main car park in Otford opposite the Bull. The walk starts at 9.45am and will follow a route via Sevenoaks, Seal, Noah’s Ark and Kemsing, where there will be a brief stop for a comfort break and personnel refreshments. It will continue via the North Downs Way, Otford Manor and Great Woods to the lunch stop at the Fox and Hounds Romney Street.. The return route will pass through Magpie Bottom, an area of outstanding natural beauty, Paine’s Farm and Greenhill Wood with views overlooking Otford.

Some steep hills are involved and the approximate distance is 10 miles.

The walk will be lead by Roger Smith.

26th March 2012

The assembly point for this walk is beside new river bridge in Station Road, Aylesford. The walk will start at 10am and is a 9 mile circular from Aylesford, taking in the 14th century bridge over the Medway, the Carmelite Friary and Kit Coty “House” a collection of stones marking a Neolithic burial chamber, There are public toilets in the village and at The Friars. Route involves a couple of stiles and a very steep climb to join the North Downs Way near Bluebell Hill, affording panoramic views. Lunch is at The Lower Bell, Chatham Road, Aylesford, ME20 7EF (Tel 01634861127).

The walk will be lead by Mike Riches.

Directions:  Take the old A20 to Ditton, turn left into Station Road (sign posted Aylesford) and follow road over rail level crossing to free parking, after the bridge.

27th February 2012

The assembly point for this walk is the car park at Toys Hill in Chart Lane (grid reference TQ469516). The walk will start at 10.00am and will follow a route which includes Henden Manor, Chittenden, Bough Beech Reservoir and Nature Reserve, Scollops Farm, Boarhill and Ide Hill, where lunch will be taken at the Cock Inn (grid reference TQ486518). The return route includes Scords Wood. There are nine stiles of which five are optional. Although some steep hills are involved, the views are very rewarding. Binoculars may be useful for possible wading birds. The total distance is about 92 miles.

The walk will be led by Alan Bodley.

Directions: From Eynsford, Crockenhill, Orpington or Swanley, join the A21/M25 going south. Exit from the A21 by the A25 turnoff for Westerham. Continue to Brasted and turn left into Chart Lane. Continue for about 2.2 miles to the car park which is on the right hand side.

30th January 2012

The assembly point for this walk is the car park at the recreation ground in Cudham. Please arrive early enough to start the walk sharply at 10am. The route will follow the Berrys Green circular walk published by Bromley Council and include a stop for lunch at the Fox and Hounds Biggin Hill.

The approximate distance is 9 miles and the walk will be lead by Margaret Little.

Directions: From Eynsford, Crockenhill, Bromley or Swanley proceed to Green Street Green on the A21. At the roundabout turn into Cudham Road North and travel the whole length to Cudham. After passing the Blacksmith’s Arms, turn left into the car park.
