2013 Extended Walks

Below are the extended walk details for 2013

28th January 2013

Assembly point is the Car Park in Filston Land, Shoreham. Please arrive early enough for a prompt start at 9.45am. The walk will follow a route which includes the Terrace alongside Meenfield Wood, Pilots Wood, Polhill Nature Reserve, Fort Halstead, The North Downs Way and Pilgrims Way overlooking Chevening and Otford for lunch at The Crown (www.crowpubotford.co.uk) . The return route will include the Darent Valley Path.

Distance: Approx. 9 miles.

Leader: Alan Hayward.

Directions: From Eynsford or Crockenhill join the A225 going south. At Shoreham Station, turn right into Station Rd and continue across the bridge into Church Street. Follow road to the end turn left into Filston Lane. Car park is 50 metres on the left.



25th February 2013

The assembly point will be The Main Car Park at Trosley Country Park. Please arrive early enough for lunch orders to be taken so that the walk can start at 10am.

The route will go through Trosley Country Park Whitehorse Woods and parts of the, North Downs Way to All Saints Church Birling and lunch at the Nevill Bull (www.nevillbull.co.uk). The route will then continue through Cleggett’s Farm, Ryarsh Woods, Coldrum Long Barrow, St Peter & St Paul Church (Trottiscliffe) Pilgrims Way and then a climb back into Trosley Country Park. (Tea Room next to the car park). There should be some wonderful views over the Weald of Kent to both the East & West if the weather is kind to us.

Directions:  From Crockenhill & Eynsford take the A20 to the bottom of Wrotham Hill. At the roundabout turn left and take the A227 (signposted Trosley Country Park). Just after the Vigo pub turn right and follow signs for the country park. Once you have entered the park follow signs for the MAIN Car Park.

25th March 2013

The assembly point is at Teston Country Park. Please arrive by 9.45am so that lunch orders can be taken and phoned ahead on the day to avoid delay.

The walk will start at 10am and go along the Medway valley Walk taking in Kettle Corner, Fant House, East Farleigh, and Farleigh Green, where we will stop for lunch at the Good Intent public house. After lunch the return route will be through West Farleigh, Tutsham Hall and Wateringbury Bridge and along the river path back to Teston.

Distance: 9.2 miles.

Directions:  From Swanley, take the M20 to junction exit 5 to the A20, at the next roundabout take the second exit onto the A20 and turn left on to B2246 through Barming, turn right onto the A26 through East Barming and turn left onto B2163, over the level crossing and right into Teston Country Park.

29th April 2013

The assembly point is the public car park in Kemsing, just pass the Bull pub on the opposite side of the road. Please arrive early by 9.45am so lunch orders can be taken.

The walk will start at 10am.

The route is from Kemsing to the North Downs Way, Otford Manor, Great Woods, Magpie Bottom, (an area of outstanding natural beauty), Paine’s Farm and Greenhill Wood with views overlooking Otford then on into Otford for lunch at the Crown (www.crownpubotford.co.uk). The return route will be via Bishops Place, The Moors, Greatness, Seal and Noah’s Ark.

Note:  Some steep hills are involved.

Directions: From Swanley take to the A20 to Farningham roundabout cross the roundabout and take the next turn on the right (A225) go through Farningham, Eynsford and Shoreham. As you approach Otford and the road bears right, turn left into Pilgrims Way East (signposted Kemsing) continue until you see a signpost for Seal. Turn right (Childsbridge Lane) and take the 3rd turning on the Left (W End), continue until you reach the centre of Kemsing. The entrance to the car park is just around the left hand bend pass the Bells Pub.

3rd June 2013

The assembly point is the car park at Hosey Common in Hosey Hill (B2026). Please arrive by 9.45am so that lunch orders can be taken.

The walk will start at 10am and follow a route from Hosey Common to French Street, Toy’s Hill, Obriss Farm, Cow Lees and Crockham Hill for lunch at the Royal Oak (www.royaloakcrockhamhill.co.uk). The return route includes Crockham Hill Common and Squerryes Park.

Distance: 9 miles

Directions: From Eynsford, Crockenhill, Orpington or Swanley, join the A21/M25 going south. Exit from the A21 by the A25 turnoff for Westerham. Continue to Westerham and turn left into Hosey Hill (B2026). Continue for about 0.6 of a mile to the car park on left hand side of road.

24th June 2013

The assembly point is Joyce Green Lane between Groveherst Road and Salmon Road. Please arrive by 9.45am for lunch orders to be taken.

The walk starts at 10am and will follow a route along the Darenth Valley Path and the Long Reach footpath next to the River Thames, it continues under QEII Bridge to the gardens of Ingress Abbey, Greenhithe and then back to the lunch stop in Greenhithe. The walk provides some astonishing views along the river.

Directions: From Eynsford, Crockenhill or Swanley join the M25 at Junction 3 going north towards the Dartford Tunnel. Leave the motorway at Junction 2 and take the road to Dartford. At the Princess Road roundabout turn left. At the next roundabout turn right into Park Road. At the next roundabout turn right into East Hill/The Brent. At the next roundabout turn left into St Vincents Road and to its end. At the T junction turn left into Temple Hill Square. Turn right at the next junction into Trevithick Drive. Take the 4th turning on the left into Joyce Green Lane (where Trevithick Drive continues as Henderson Drive) and then the 2nd turning on the left and park sensitively. As there is limited space, for parking please share cars wherever possible. Please arrive in plenty of time to start the walk at 10am.

29th July 2013

The assembly point is St Lawrence’s Church in Mereworth. Please arrive by 9.45am so lunch orders can be taken. The walk will start at 10am.

From St Lawrence Church the walk will go through Baron’s Place, Hurst Woods, Broadfield and Plaxtol then continue on to Dunk’s Green for lunch at the Kentish Rifleman (www.thekentishrifleman.co.uk). The return route will be through Roughway and then along the Greensand Way / Wealdway to West Peckham and then on into Mereworth.

Directions:  From Crockenhill or Eynsford take the A20 road to Wrotham Heath, go through the traffic lights and then turn right onto the B2016 (7 Mile Lane) and stay on the road for just over 3 miles then turn left into ‘The Street’ (signposted Mereworth) follow the road for just under 0.5 mile, St Lawrence Church is on your right. There are parking lay-bys on the road before and besides the church.

2nd September 2013

The assembly point is the car park at Toys Hill  in Chart Lane. Please arrive by 9.45am; the walk will start at 10am . The lunch stop will be at the Woodman on Goathurst Common (www.thewoodman-idehill.co.uk)

The route will include Henden Manor, Chittenden, Bough Beech visitor centre, Winkhurst Green, Hatchlands Farm, Brook Place and Ide Hill. Although some steep hills are involved, the views of The Weald are very rewarding.

Directions:           From Eynsford, Crockenhill, Orpington or Swanley, join the A21/M25 going South.  Exit from the A21 by the A25 turnoff for Westerham.  Continue to Brasted and turn left into Chart Lane (signposted Fox & Hounds pub).  Continue for about 2.2 miles to the car park which is on the right hand side.

30th September 2013

The assembly point is the car park of St Martins Church in Church Road Brasted. Please arrive by 9.30am so lunch orders can be taken. The walk will start at 9.45am. 

From St Martins Church the walk will go pass Court Lodge Farm, up Hogtrough Hill and along the North Downs Way, then through Berry’s Green to Cudham for lunch at the Blacksmiths Arms(www.theblacksmithsarms.co.uk). After lunch the walk will continue pass Cacket’s Farm and through Letts Green to St Katherine’s Church in Knockholt. Then along the NDW passed Brasted Hill Farm and over the M25 back to the start point.

Directions: From Crockenhill or Eynsford take the M25 and continue on to the A21 Turn off the A21 onto the A25 go west towards Westerham. Go through the centre of Brasted and turn right into Church Road (Pub on the corner called The Bull) Continue along Church Rd until you reach the Stanhope Arms (on left) the Church car park is just beyond this (Wooded gates with a clasp holding them together) we have permission to park here.

28th October 2013

 

The assembly point is the public car park in Holly Hill nr Vigo. Please arrive by 9.30am so that lunch orders can be taken. The walk will start at 9.45am and be led by Alan Hayward. Distance approx. 9.8 miles.

From the car park the route will follow the North Downs Way (NDW) through Punish Wood, Pomphrey Wood and Greatpark Wood before dropping down to Lad’s Farm, through Paddlesworths and Birling Ashes to Birling for lunch at the Nevill Bull (www.nevillbull.co.uk). After lunch the route will continue through Birling to Birling Lodge, Coney Lodge and Birling Place before climbing back up to Holly Hill through Crookhorn Wood.

There should be some wonderful autumn colours to be seen if the weather is kind to us.

25th November 2013

Assembly Point: Car Park in Beacon Wood Country Park Bean.

Please arrive by 9.30am so that lunch orders can be taken.

The walk will start at 9.45am

Walk Leader: Alan Hayward.

Distance approx. 9.5 miles.

From the car park the route will go through part of Beacon Wood Country Park then on into Betsham, Southfleet and Green Street Green from here the route continues through an ‘unusual’ graveyard to Gill’s Farm and St Margaret’s Farm then along the ridge above the River Darenth through St Margaret’s Church to the Chequers Inn for Lunch. After lunch the route will go over Darenth Hill and into Lands End and through Ladies Wood and Lords Wood before entering Beacon Country Park again    

 

Directions: From Crockenhill & Eynsford take the M25 to the A2 interchange and then the A2 to the Bluewater turn off. At the roundabout turn right and go over the A2 towards Bean. Go through Bean and look out for the sign for Beacon Country Park which will be on your right. Follow the signs to car park.
