2017 All-Day Walk Details

27th November 2017

The assembly Point for this Figure of 8 walk is the Greyhound pub on Keston Common (www.greyhoundkeston.co.uk). Please arrive by 9.30am so lunch orders can be taken.

The walk will be led by Russ Burton.

The morning walk will start at 9.45am and go via Nash Farm, Furze Bottom, Leaves Green and Keston Court back to the Greyhound a distance of approx. 6.4miles

Greyhound for lunch (12.45 approx.)

The afternoon walk will start at 1.45 pm approx. and go via Baston Manor, Well Wood and Nash Lane back to the Greyhound a distance of approx. 2.8 miles.

Directions: Suggested route: From Eynsford, Crockenhill or Swanley join the M25 at Junction 3 and leave at Junction 4, follow the signs for the A21 and continue on till you reach the traffic lights at Locksbottom. Bear left onto the A232 go through the next set of traffic lights and continue on for approx. 0.3 mile then turn left in to Commonside at the end of the road you will see the Greyhound on your left. For those of you that use satnav, the postcode is BR2 6BP.

The assembly point for this Fig of 8 All-Day walk is the car park of Ye Old Leather Bottle Pub (www.theleatherbottle.pub) in Cobham. Please arrive by 9.30am so lunch orders can be taken. The walk will start at 9.45am and be led by Alan Hayward

The morning walk is 5.4 miles and will go through Cobham village and on pass Lodge Farm to the Mausoleum, from here it will go around the edge of Cobham Park before crossing part of it into Ashenbank Wood and then on into Jeskyns Country Park and back to Ye Old Leather Bottle for lunch (12.45 approx.).

The afternoon route is a 4.3 mile walk which will go through Orchards to Round Street then continue on to Nash Street before returning across open countryside and part of Jeskyns Country Park pass Owletts (NT property) to Ye Old Leather Bottle.

Directions: From Eynsford, Crockenhill, Orpington or Swanley, join the M25 to Junction 2 and take the A2 towards Dover. Exit the A2 for Gravesend (E). At the roundabout turn right and go over the A2 and follow the signposts for Sole Street on entering the village of Cobham Ye Olde Leather Bottle is on the Left Hand.

The assembly point for this All-Day walk is St Lawrence’s Church in Mereworth with a lunch stop at the Kentish Rifleman (www.thekentishrifleman.co.uk) in Dunk’s Green. Please arrive by 9.45am so lunch orders can be taken.

The walk will start at 10am and be led Richard Pierce. Distance 9.6 miles approx.

From St Lawrence Church, the walk will go through Baron’s Place, Hurst Woods, Broadfield and Plaxtol then continue on to Dunk’s Green for lunch. The return route will be through Roughway and then along the Greensand Way / Wealdway to West Peckham and then on into Mereworth.

Directions: From Crockenhill or Eynsford take the A20 road to Wrotham Heath, go through the traffic lights and then turn right onto the B2016 (7 Mile Lane) and stay on the road for just over 3 miles then turn left into ‘The Street’ (signposted Mereworth) follow the road for just under 0.5 mile, St Lawrence Church is on your right. There are parking lay-bys on the road before and besides the church.

The assembly point for this Fig of 8 All-Day walk is in the Car Park of the Queens Head Pub (www.queensheaddowne.com) in Downe Village. Please arrive by 9.45am so that lunch orders can be taken and placed with the pub. The walk will start at 10am and be led by Barry & Joan Everitt.

The walk will be 2 circular walks one in the morning the other in the afternoon after lunch.

The morning walk will be out of Downe village to Downe Court and on into Snotsdale Wood, through Sow Wood pass Biggin Hill airport and onto Holwood Farm then through part of the golf course to Green Hill then back to the Queens Head for lunch, a distance of 5.8 miles.

The afternoon walk will leave the Queens Head (1.45pm) and go out towards Gorringes Farm then through parts of Cuckoo Wood and High Elms to North End Farm continuing on part of the London Loop to Farthing Street then back to the Queens Head in Downe a distance of 3.4 miles.

Directions: From J4 4 on the M25 follow the signpost for Biggin Hill Airport then Downe (or use the Queens Head Website for directions). The Queens head is in the center of the village. Post code is BR6 7US       Map Ref 432617

Note:   We can use the Queens Head CP however it’s not big so car sharing would be good.

The assembly point for this Fig of 8 All-Day walk will be in the Car Park of the Birchwood Golf and Country Club (website: http://www.birchwoodparkgc.co.uk/). Please arrive by 9.30am so that lunch orders can be taken and placed with the Golf & Country Club.

The walk will start at 09.45am and be led by Alan Hayward.

The morning walk is 6.4 miles and will go through Chalk Wood to Manor Farm then on into Footscray Meadow and along the River Cray to Mount Mascal Farm and then along the ridge of Bunkers Hill back to the Birchwood Golf & Country Club for Lunch.

The afternoon walk is 3.2 miles and will start at 1.45pm. This will be a circular route though part of the golf course and Joyden’s Wood back to the club house.

Directions: From Swanley take the road towards Sidcup. At the traffic lights, just before the Bull at Birchwood (Premier Inn) / Kings Garage turn right into Birchwood Wood, follow the road for just over 0.5 mile. The entrance to the golf club is on the left-hand side follow the road to the car park.

26th June 2017

The assembly point for this All-Day walk is the Car Park in Filston Lane Shoreham.

Please arrive by 9.30am for lunch orders to be taken and phoned through to The Bell Inn.

The walk will start at 09.45am and be led by Alan Bodley.

The walk will go out through Shoreham crossing the A225 then climbing up to Dunstall Farm and continuing on to Romney street then through Knatts Valley and Woodlands to Cotmans Ash. From here we descend to Kemsing and The Bell Inn for Lunch. After lunch the route will continue on through Otford and back to the car park in Filston Lane.

Distance: 10miles. There are 12 stiles including a ladder style. Weather permitting there will be good views making the climbs all the more rewarding!

Directions: From Eynsford or Crockenhill join the A225 going south. At Shoreham Station, turn right into Station Rd and continue across the bridge into Church Street. Follow road to the end turn left into Filston Lane. The car park is 50m on the left. The Post code is TN14 7SS. Map Reference TQ 518615.

Note: The car park is not very big and can be busy so car sharing is a good idea.

5th June 2017

(This is the May walk postponed due to BH). The assembly point for this All-Day walk is the Car Park at the Nevill Bull (www.thenevillbull.net). Please arrive by 9.30am so that lunch orders can be taken and left at the pub before we depart.

The walk will start at 09.45am and be led by Alan Hayward.

It will be 2 circular walks one in the morning the other in the afternoon after lunch.

The morning walk will be out of Birling towards Birling Lodge Farm then on towards Birling Place Farm we continue a steady climb up to the North Downs Way with good views over the valley of visons and Birling and on to Hope Hill. From here we start our decent through Holly Hill Woods to Park Farm and on through Cleggett’s Farm and Godfreys Farm to Birling to the Nevill Bull for lunch a distance of 5.7miles.

The afternoon walk will leave the Nevill Bull (2pm) and go out of Birling towards Clacketts Farm and through Birling Wood to Ryarsh then over the M20 to Ryarsh Church pass Leybourne College and onto towards Birling Ashes and Birling Church back to the Nevill Bull a distance of 4.2miles.

Notes: The morning walk will be walking up the North Downs (for the views) before descending again to Birling

Afternoon walk is flat through the valley (you will beable to have a ‘pud’ if you want one!)

Directions: From Crockenhill, Swanley or Eynsford take the A20 (or the M20 to Jun 3 and then join the A20) to Wrotham Heath. Go through the traffic lights and continue for approx. 2.3 till you see a signpost for Ryarsh and turn left, crossing over the M20 at the T junction turn right (The Street) and go through Ryarsh following the sign for Birling. The Nevill Bull will be on the right-hand side (car park behind pub). An alternative route is to leave the M20 at junction 4 (keep in the outside lane on the slip road) at the roundabout turn right (to cross the motorway). Stay in the outside lane and go through the traffic lights follow the signs for the A228. You will then come to another roundabout. Turn right here then take the 1st exit (sign posted Birling) the road will cross back over the M20 and go into Birling. At the T junction in the village turn left, the Nevill Bull is immediately on you right, the car park entrance at the far end. The Post code is ME19 5JW. Map Reference is 680605.

24th April 2017

This all-Day walk will be a Fig of 8 from the Malts Shovel Pub in Eynsford. Lunch will be at the Malt Shovel. The assembly point is in the Malt Shovel car park. The car park is not large so please car share. You can also park in the public car park and walk down. Please arrive by 9.15am so that lunch orders can be taken.

The morning walk will start at 9:30am following a route through the village, Upper Austin Lodge, Preston Hill, Shoreham Lullingstone and back into Eynsford for lunch at the Malt Shovel, a distance of 7.13 miles. We should be back for lunch at 13:15.

The afternoon walk it will start at 14:30pm and will follow a route up Spare Penny Lane, through Farningham Village and back to Eynsford, a distance of 2.77 miles. We should be back at 16:00.

The total distance is 9.90 miles and the walk be led by Bob Brickell.

During the walk(s) Bob will point out the interesting buildings and history detailed in Rod Shelton’s excellent book “Darent” on route.

Directions: Suggested route: From Crockenhill or Swanley head to the Farningham roundabout on the A20,  and take the exit heading  to West Kingsdown, take the first right onto the A225 to Eynsford, drive through the village to the Malt Shovel, their car park is on the right opposite the pub.

The assembly point for this All Day Walk is the Three Horseshoes Pub (www.threehorseshoesknockholt.co.uk) car park at Knockholt Pound, Rushmoor Hill (approx. 1mile past Colling’s Garden Centre).

The walk will start at 9.45am and be led by Alan Hayward. Distance approx. 9.6 miles. Please arrive early enough so lunch orders can be taken before we leave.

The morning route will be via the edge of Halstead, alongside the edge of Coolings Nursey down to The Washneys then back up through Birchs Croft and Single’s Cross to the Three Horseshoes for Lunch a distance of approx. 5miles.

The afternoon route will be via Minny Wood and Park Wood and Knockholt then along part of the North Downs Way back to the Three Horseshoes a distance of approx. 4.6 miles.

Although some steep hills are involved, the views of The Weald are very rewarding.

Directions: From Eynsford, Crockenhill or Swanley, join the M25 (Jun 3) going South and exit at Junction 4 and at the roundabout take the A21. At the next roundabout (Pratts Bottom turn) left into Rushmoor Hill and follow the road to Knockholt Pound (approx. 2miles).

This All-Day Walk will a circular walk from Toys Hill with a lunch stop at The Cock Inn in Ide Hill

The assembly point is the car park at Toys Hill in Chart Lane.

The walk will start at 10.00am and be led by Alan Bodley. Distance approx.. 9.5 miles

Please arrive early enough for lunch orders to be taken.

The route includes views of Henden Manor and Chittenden, Bough Beech visitor centre, Winkhurst Green, Hatchlands Farm, Brookhill and Stubbs Wood, Ide Hill (lunch at the Cock Inn), Emmetts and The Chart.

Although some steep hills are involved, the views of The Weald are very rewarding.

This All-Day walk will be be a Figure of 8 from the Chequers Pub Darenth 

Lunch stop will be at the Chequers (www.chequersdarenth.com).

The assembly point will be by the car park outside the Chequers.

Please arrive by 9.15am so that lunch orders can be taken (if required).

The morning walk will start at 09:30 sharp and follow The Darenth Valley Path to South Darenth and Horton Kirby, returning to Darenth via Sutton at Hone for lunch at the Chequers, distance 6.12 miles. (Lunch approx. 1pm).

The afternoon walk will start at 14:15pm and will follow The Darenth Valley Path to Dartford and back to the Chequers, a distance of 4.55 miles.

The total distance is 10.66 miles and the walk will be led by Bob Brickell.
