2015 Extended Walk Details

30th November 2015

 

The next extended walk is on Monday 30 November 2015 with a lunch stop at the Change of Horses in Farnborough Village (no website). The assembly point is the car park of the Change Horses Pub in Farnborough Village. Please arrive by 9.30am so that lunch orders can be taken.

The walk will start at 9.45am and be led by Russ Burton.

The walk will be 2 circulars one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

The morning walk will be through Farnborough Village from the Change of Horses Car Park towards The Birches, it will then left through Ninhams and Lake Woods and will then follow park of the London Loop to BastonManor before turning back towards Keston Common then on through Keston Court to Holwood Farm where it again joins part of the London Loop then on through The Larches back to the Change of Horses Farnborough for lunch a distance of 6.4miles.

The afternoon route will leave the Change of Horses heading towards Green Street Green it will then turn into High Elms Country before emerging at North End Farm and then back to Farnborough a distance of 3.5 miles.

Directions: Suggested route from Crockenhill & Eynsford take the M25 to Junction 4 and then follow the A21signs towards Bromley. After the Green Street Green roundabout turn left at the next roundabout onto the B2158. Follow the road into Farnborough Village the Change of Horses is on the right hand side of the High Street.

26th October 2015

 

The next extended walk is on Monday 26 October 2015. The assembly point is the Car Park at the Nevill Bull Pub (www.nevillbull.co.uk) in Birling Village. Please arrive by 9.30am so that lunch orders can be taken and phoned ahead on the day to avoid delay.

The walk will start at 9.45am and be led by Alan Hayward.

The walk will be 2 circular walks one in the morning the other in the afternoon after lunch.

The morning walk will be out of Birling towards Place Farm then on through Godfreys Farm and Park Farm, it is then a steady climb across the Pilgrims Way up to Holly Hill Woods. We then continue onto Holly Hill Lodge and along the NOrth Downs with (if the weather is good) spectacular views over the valley of visions. We thrn continue our decent to Birling Place Farm then onto Birling Lodge Farm and Birling to the Nevill Bull for lunch  a distance of 5.7 miles.

The afternoon walk will leave the Nevill Bull and go out of Birling by the church towards Horn Street before turning towards Birling Ashes, we then continue over the the M20 to Audley House pass Leybourne College back over the M20 and into Ryarsh the route will then continue through Birling Woods and back to the Nevill Bull in Birling a distance of 4.2 miles.

Directions: From Crockenhill, Swanley or Eynsford take the A20 (or the M20 to Jun 3 then join the A20) to Wortham Heath. Go through the traffic lights then continue for approx. 2.3miles until you see a sign post for Ryarsh, turn left crossing over the M20 at the T Junction turn right (The Street) and go through Ryarsh following the signs for Birling. The Nevill Bull is on your right hand side (car park is behind the pub).

The next extended walk is on Monday 28 September 2015. The assembly point is the Car Park at Queens Head Pub (www.queensheaddowne.com) in Downe Village. Please arrive by 9.45am so that lunch orders can be taken and phoned ahead on the day to avoid delay.

The walk will start at 10am and be led by Barry & Joan Everitt.

The walk will be 2 circular walks one in the morning the other in the afternoon after lunch.

The morning walk (Red line) will be out of Downe village to Green Hill then along the side of the valley to Holwood Farm returning on the other side of the valley next to Biggin Hill Airport then through Sow woods, Snotsdale wood and onto Downe Court before returning to the Queens Head a distance of 5.8miles.

The afternoon walk (Blue Line) will leave the Queens Head and go out of Downe towards Christmas Tree Farm and tand Cudham Road to Hostye Farm and then onto Cudham Church and Single Street through Luxted and behind Downe House back to the Queens Head in Downe a distance of 4.3miles.

Directions: From J4 on the M25 follow the signpost for Biggin Hill Airport and then Downe (or look on the Queens Head website). The Queens head is in the centre of the village.

The assembly point for this walk is the public car park in Borough Green. Please arrive by 9.45am so lunch orders can be taken. The walk will start at 10am.

Distance: 10 miles (6 in the morning & 4 in the afternoon)

Walk Leader: Richard Pierce

The walk will go through Borough Green, and onto Firemanshaw Wood, passing through industrial estate and into the pleasant village of Platt and then onto the Greensands Way through Shipborne forest. It will then continue pass Broadfield Farm and on into Dunks Green for lunch at the Kentish Rifleman (www.thekentishrifleman.co.uk). After lunch the walk will continue into Plaxtol and on through Yopps Green, Brookside Farm, Basted and Basted House back to the car park.

Notes: There is 1 style in the morning followed by walking the plank! In the afternoon there are 6 styles (4 in quick succession) and 3 bridges. In Borough Green there are public toilets close to the car park.

Directions:           Take the A20 (or M20 to Jun 2 then the A20) to the roundabout at Wrotham. At the roundabout take the 2nd Exit onto the A227 and follow the road into Borough Green bearing right just after crossing the railway at Borough Green Railway Station, the car park entrance is on the left hand side opposite Forman Bros Garage.

The assembly point for this walk is the public car park next to the Blacksmiths Arms in Cudham. Please arrive by 9.45am so lunch food orders can be taken. The walk will start at 10am.

Distance:        9.7miles

Walk Leader: Alan Bodley

The walk will go through New Barn Farm, Grays FArm, North Downs Way (via Stoneings) to Knockholt Pound for lunch stop at the Three Hourseshoes (www.threehorseshoesknockholt.co.uk). After lunch the route will continue to Single's Cross, Birch Croft, Broom Wood, Mace Farm then back to the public car park at Cudham.

Directions: From Eynsford, Crockenhill or Swanley procedd to Green Street Green on the A21. At the roundabout turn into Cudham Road North, travel the whole length of the road to Cudham, after passing the Blacksmiths Arms (on the left handside) turn left into the public car park.

Note: The route is undulating (average gradient 2.8% or 1:35) and has a few upward inclides but not serve or long. There asre 18 styles (11 after lunch!). NDW section has swing gates. Some parts of the route may be overgrown so please bring secatuers with you.

29th June 2015

The assembly point for this walk is the One Tree Hill Car Park in Carter’s Hill, Underriver. Please arrive by 9.45am.

The walk will start at 10am

Distance:        9 miles     Walk Leader: Bob Brickell

From the car park the walk will go through Carters Hill, Knole Park, Godden Green and Seal Chart, the lunch Stop will be at the Crown Point, Sevenoaks Road, Seal Chart, Sevenoaks, TN15 0HB (website: www.greatbritishcarvery.co.uk/our-pubs/crown-point) The return route will be through Ightham Common, Raspit Hill, Broadbent Wood, Willmot Hill and One Tree Hill. The total distance is 9 miles.

Directions: From Swanley, take the A20 Farningham and turn right on to A225 through Eynsford and Otford to the Traffic Lights at Bat & Ball Station. Turn left onto A25 (towards Seal). In Seal turn right into Park Lane (signposted; Godden Green – just after Pelican Crossing Lights by Kentish Yeoman) and keep right where the road forks (signposted Godden Green and Underriver) go through Godden Green after 1.25 miles there will be a junction on the right (Fawke Wood Road) the car park is approx 70yds beyond this on the left hand side.

The Nearest post code is TN15 0SN (Carters Hill House, Carter Hill, Underriver, Sevenoaks; NOTE: This is a house about 100yds beyond the car park up a track on the right.

1st June 2015

The assembly point for this walk will be the Car Park at the top of Wrotham Hill on the A20 by the M20 Junction 2 turn off.

Please arrive in plenty of time for lunch orders to be taken.

The walk will start at 9.45am

The distance is approximately 9.8miles  Walk Leader: Brian Barnes

From the car park the route will go down Wrotham Hill then along part of the North Downs Way, climbing through Hognore Wood to Vigo Village and on to Hodsoll Street and South Ash Road to the Anchor & Hope  (www.anchorandhope-ash.com), for lunch. After lunch the route will go through Stanstead and make it way back to the car park.

Directions: From Eynsford, Crockenhill or Swanley join the A20 going towards Wrotham (or the M20 to Junction 2 where you leave it). As you enter the roundabout at the top of Wrotham Hill (which is the M20 Jun. 2 turn off) take the 1st left  and this is the car park (car sharing is advised as the CP is not that large).

27th April 2015

The assembly point for this walk is the main car park in Kemsing, opposite the Bell pub. There are toilets at the car park.

Please arrive in good time so food orders can be taken.

The walk will start at 9.45am.

The walk will follow a route through the recreation ground at Kemsing, Pilgrims Way, Woodlea, North Downs Way, Otford Manor, Shorehill Lane, Great Woods and Magpie Bottom, (an AONB), where there will be a stop for personnel refreshments. It will continue to the lunch stop via Paine’s Farm, Row Dow Lane, Greenhill Wood (views overlooking Otford), Fackenden Down, Warren Farm, Dunstall Farm, White Hill then into Shoreham for lunch at THE KINGS ARMS. After lunch, the return route will follow the Darent Valley Path to Otford, then on through Oxenhill Shaw and back to Kemsing.

Note: There are some Steep Hills.

The distance is approximately 10.3miles:       Walk leader Roger Smith.

Directions: From Eynsford, Crockenhill or Swanley join the A225 going south. At Otford turn left into Pilgrims Way following the sign to Kemsing. On reaching the narrow road sign, turn right into Childsbridge Lane. Turn left into West End and continue to High Street. The entrance to the car park is next to the new development opposite the Bell.

The assembly point for this walk is Jeskyns Community Woodland Car Park Henhurst Road Cobham.

Please arrive by 9.30 so lunch orders can be taken and phoned ahead.

The walk will start at 9.45am and go through Jeskyns Community Woodland, Ashenback Woods and a Bronze Age Long Barrow into Shorne Woods passing prehistory Mesolithic Sculptures, the ruins of Randall Manor and site of WW2 Army Camp then into Brewers Wood and Cobham Park passing Darnley Mausoleum and views of Cobham Hall then into Cobham for lunch at Ye Olde Leather Bottle (www.theleatherbottle.pub) in Cobham. After lunch the route will continue through the grounds of the 13th Century Church of St Mary Magdalene and Cobham College to Danes Place and then into Jeskyns Orchard, Jeskyns Meadow and back to the car park.

The walk will be led by Alan Hayward and the distance is10miles approx.

Directions: From Crockenhill, Eynsford, Orpington or Swanley join the M25 to Jun 2 and take the A2 towards Dover. Exit the A2 for Gravesend (E). At the roundabout turn right and go over the A2 and follow the signpost for Sole Street. Jeskyns Community Woodland car park is approx.0.5miles on the left hand side. NOTE there is a Car Park charge of £1.50 per car per day.

26th January 2015

The walk will be from Becon Wood Country Park with a lunch stop at The Chequers in Darent Road South Darenth.

Assembly Point: Car Park in Beacon Wood Country Park Bean.

Please arrive by 9.30am so that lunch orders can be taken.

The walk will start at 9.45am

Walk Leader: Alan Hayward.

Distance approx. 9.5 miles.

From the car park the route will go through part of Beacon Wood Country Park then on into Betsham, Southfleet and Green Street Green from here the route continues through an ‘unusual’ graveyard to Gill’s Farm and St Margaret’s Farm then along the ridge above the River Darenth through St Margaret’s Church to the Chequers Inn for Lunch. After lunch the route will go over Darenth Hill and into Lands End and through Ladies Wood and Lords Wood before entering Beacon Country Park again    

Directions: From Crockenhill & Eynsford take the M25 to the A2 interchange and then the A2 to the Bluewater turn off. At the roundabout turn right and go over the A2 towards Bean. Go through Bean and look out for the sign for Beacon Country Park which will be on your right. Follow the signs to car park.
