2019 All-Day Walk Details

7th January 2019

The assembly point is the Three Horseshoes Pub (https://3shoesknockholt.co.uk/) car park at Knockholt Pound on Rushmoor Hill (approx. 1 mile past Cooling’s Garden Centre). Please arrive early enough for lunch orders to be taken.

The walk will start at 9.45am and be led by Alan Hayward.

Distance approx. 9.6 miles. The proposed routes are as follows:

Morning route will be via the edge of Halstead, alongside the edge of Coolings Nursey  down to The Washneys then back up through Birchs Croft and Single’s Cross to the Three Horseshoes for Lunch a distance of approx. 5miles.

Afternoon route will be via Minny Wood and Park Wood and Knockholt then along part of the North Downs Way back to the Three Horseshoes a distance of approx. 4.6 miles.

Directions: From Eynsford, Crockenhill or Swanley, join the M25 (Jun 3) going South and exit at Junction 4 and at the roundabout take the A21. At the next roundabout (Pratts Bottom turn) left into Rushmoor Hill and follow the road to Knockholt Pound (approx. 2miles).

4th February 2019

The assembley point for this Figure of 8 walk is the car park of The Woodman Pub (http://woodmanidehill.co.uk/) on Goathurst Common. Please arrive by 9.30am so lunch orders can be taken and placed with the pub.

The morning walk will start at 9.45am and go via Willow Wood, Birchfield, Ide Hill, Hanging Bank, Stub Wood and Hyde’s Forest  to the Woodman for lunch a distance of approx. 5.9 miles.

The afternoon walk will start at 13.45 and go via Apps Hollow, Everlands, Mill Bank Wood and Whitley Forrest back to the Woodman Pub a distance of approx. 3.9 miles.

Total is 9.8 miles approx. and the walk will be led by Alan Hayward.

Directions: From Swanley take the M25 south and continue on to the A21 at Jun 5 take the 2nd exit towards Sevenoaks just pass the Kings Head at Bessels Green turn right onto Bessels Green Road and continue on to the B2042 follow this road to Goathurst Common the Woodman is on the left-hand side. From Eynsford take the A225 and continue through Otford until you reach the traffic lights at the Bat and Ball. Turn right onto the A25 and continue towards Westerham just pass the pelican crossing at Riverhead Primary School turn left onto the B2042 (Cold Arbour Rd) continue on this road until you reach Goathurst Common the Woodman is on you left-hand side.

The assembly point for this All Day Walk is the signpost for the Green Chain Walk at the entrance to Lesnes Abbey Park in New Road, Abbey Wood. Lunch will be at he Running Horses in Erith. Please arrive by 9.45am so that lunch orders may be taken. The walk will start at 10.00am and be led by Alan Bodley.

The route will go through Lesnes Abbey Woods includes Lesnes Abbey, Thamesmead, Crossness Engine House, New Crossness Water Treatment works, Belvedere Heat from Waste plant, Erith Waterside Gardens for lunch at the Running Horses. The return route will be through Waterside Gardens along the river side then through Frank’s Park and back into Lesnes Abbey Woods. Parts of the route are on the Green Chain Way.

Distance 9.6 miles approx.

There are NO stiles! Most of the route is level; with a gentle incline near the end. Bird watchers may wish to bring binoculars as there will be opportunities to observe seabirds along the Thames Path.

Directions:     From Eynsford, Crockenhill, or Swanley, proceed to Crayford and follow the signposts for Erith (A206). At the Erith roundabout turn left following the signs for Upper Belvedere (A206). At the next mini roundabout bear right onto the A206. Continue on this road for approx. 2.25miles (through Belvedere) until you reach a Zebra crossing, immediately past this turn Right into New Road, drive pass the houses on the right hand side and after approx. 200yds you can park on the right hand side (just before the controlled parking sign) which is at the entrance to Lesnes Abbey Wood.

1st April

The assembly point for this Figure of 8 walk is the Ship Inn (https://www.greeneking-pubs.co.uk/pubs/kent/ship-inn/) car park in The Street, Cobham, DA12 3BN. Please arrive by 9.30am so that lunch orders may be taken. The walk will start at 10.00am and be led by Alan Hayward.

The morning walk will start from the Ship Inn and go through Cobham Park, Great Wood & Ranscombe Fm before return to the Ship Inn via Birch Wood, Norwood Grove and Lodge Farm to the Ship Inn a distance of 6 miles.

The afternoon walk will go through Cobham to the Church and through Cobham College from here it will continue through Orchards and Jeskyns Country Park and Ashenbank Wood before returning to the Ship Inn a distance of 3.6 miles.

There should be an abundance of wild flowers, wildlife and woodland flowers on the walk.

Directions:      From Eynsford, Crockenhill, Orpington or Swanley, join the M25 to Junction 2 and take the A2 towards Dover. Exit the A2 for Gravesend (E).

At the roundabout turn, right and go over the A2 and follow the signposts for Sole Street on entering the village of Cobham through the chicane and continue down the street to the other end of the village and the Ship Inn is on the left-hand side.

Alternative route is to stay on the A2 until the next junction and exit for Shone & Cobham. Follow the signpost back over the A2 for Cobham at the 1st roundabout turn left and at the next one turn right into The Street and the Ship Inn will be on your right-hand side.

Assembly point for this Figure of 8 walk is the Golden Lion (https://www.thegoldenlionpub.co.uk/) car park in Luddesdown Road, Luddesdown, Kent. DA13 0XE

Please arrive by 9.30am so that lunch orders may be taken. The walk will start at 10.00am and be led by Bob Brickell.

The morning walk will go through Headley Down, Reynods Farm, Henly Woods Dene Manor, Dilmer Woods Great Buckland Farm Bowling Alley and the Weald Way to Luddesdown before heading back to the Golden Lion. A distance of 5 miles.

The afternoon walk will start from the Golden Lion and go through Cobhambury Woods, Upper Bush along part of the North Downs Way, Horseholders Wood and Hatch Hill back to the Golden Lion for lunch. A distance of 5miles.

Directions:      From Eynsford, Crockenhill, Orpington or Swanley, join the M25 to Junction 2 and take the A2 towards Dover. Exit the A2 for Shorne & Cobham. Follow the signs for Cobham. At the mini roundabout for Cobham go straight across and down the hill (Cobhambury Rd) under the railway bridge. At the T junction turn right and keep right at the next junction. The Golden Lion will be on the left hand side after approx. 0.5 miles

An alternative route is to take the A20 to the bottom of Wrotham Hill and turn right onto the A227 into Meopham. Just past the George Inn (on your left) turn right into The Street. Follow this road until you reach a ‘V’ junction keep left (Oakenden Rd). When you reach Luddesdown bear left and follow the road (Luddesdown Rd) the Golden Lion will be on you right. The assembly point for this Figure of 8 walk is the Duke of Wellington (https://www.dukeofwellingtonryarsh.com/) Ryarsh, West Malling, Kent. ME19 5LS

Please arrive by 9.30am so that lunch orders may be taken. The walk will start at 10.00am and be led by Alan Hayward.

The morning walk will start from the Duke of Wellington and go through part of Ryarsh Wood pass the Long Barrow and continue along the Wealdway through Whitehorse Woods to Holly Hill. From here it will drop back down through Whitehorse Woods taking in part of the North Downs Way before passing through Park Farm & Cleggetts Farm back to the Duke of Wellington for Lunch. A distance of 6.5 miles approx.

The afternoon walk will start from the Duke of Wellington and go over the M20 pass Ryarsh church and Leybourne College and through Leybourne Woods and back of the M20 to go through Birling Wood and back to the Duke of Wellington a distance of 4 miles.  

Directions:      From Eynsford, Crockenhill or Swanley, take the A20 towards Maidstone. After going through the traffic lights at the bottom of Wrotham Hill and going straight across the roundabout at 7 Mile Lane look out for the sign post to Ryarsh on the left hand side. Turn left and follow the road in to the village. THE PUB WILL BE RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. Post Code is: ME19 5LS

The assembly point for this Figure of 8 walk is The Robin Hood (http://www.robinhood-pub.co.uk/) 364 Common Road, Blue Bell Hill, Chatham, Kent ME5 9RJ

Please arrive by 9.30am so that lunch orders may be taken. The walk will start at 9.45-10.00am and be led by Alan Hayward.

The afternoon walk will start from the Robin Hood and drop down into the village of Burham and continue pass Burham church onto the Medway Valley Path (MVP) we continue on this through to the village of Wouldham and up across open farmland and Wouldham Common until it meets the NDW from here will continue along Common Rd back to the Robin Hood a distance of 5.8 miles approx.  

The afternoon walk will start from the Robin Hood and go along Common Road before dropping down to Petts Farm  and the outskirts of Eccles village, from here it will go up across farmland till passing Little Kit Coty burial chamber before joining the North Downs way passing Kit Coty burial chamber and back to the Robin Hood a distance of 4.7 miles approx.

Directions:      From Eynsford, Crockenhill or Swanley, take the M20 to junction 6 and turn left onto the A229 (Bluebell Hill). At the top of the hill take the exit for Blue Bell Crematorium. At the T Junction (Common Road) turn RIGHT and follow the road for approx. ¾ of a mile. You will see a sign on your righthand sign The Robin Hood Pub (It lays back off the road) .

Alternative route is via the A2/M2 to Junction 3 and then follow the signage for Blue Bell Crematorium into Maidstone Road. DO NOT turn left into Robin Hood Rd (sign for crematorium) but continue straight on to the end and turn right into Common Road. Post Code is: ME5 9RL

The assembely point for this Fig of 8 walk is the Car park in Old Perry Street, Chislehurst BR7 6PL. Lunch will be at the Sydney Arms (www.sydneyarms.com).

Please arrive by 9.30am so that lunch orders can be taken.

The walk will start at 9.45am and be led by Alan Bodley 

Morning route :- Icehouse Wood, Petts Wood, Tong Farm, Pond Wood, Chislehurst Common, Kemnal Road and Beaverwood. (Distance 6.6 miles)

Lunch 1pm approx. Afternoon walk will start at 2pm approx.

Afternoon route :-

Farringtons School, Holbrook Lane, Scadbury Park and Little Wood (Distance 3.2 miles)

Morning Start 09:45 am; Lunch Stop 1:00pm; Afternoon Start 2:00 pm approx..

Route is undulating with no significant climbs or stiles. There will be brief stops en-route to point out some historical and botanical details in the area.

Directions: Take the A20 to the Frognal Corner roundabout (Queens Mary’s Hospital) turn left on to A222 towards Chislehurst. Just past the BP Garage turn left into Old Perry Street. Car Park is just past the Sydney Arms on the left-hand side .

7th October

The assembly point for the walk is the public car park in Borough Green with a lunch stop at the Kentish Rifleman (www.thekentishrifleman.co.uk) in Dunk’s Green.

Please arrive by 9.45am so lunch orders can be taken.

The walk will start at 10am and be led by Richard Pierce

Walk will go through Borough Green, and onto Firemanshaw Wood, passing through industrial estate and into the pleasant village of Platt and then onto the Greensands Way through Shipborne forest. It will then continue pass Broadfield Farm and on into Dunks Green for lunch at the Kentish Rifleman. After lunch the walk will continue into Plaxtol and on through Yopps Green, Bourne Farm, Basted and Basted House back to the car park in Borough Green. The distance is just under 10 miles (6 in the morning, 4 in the afternoon).

Directions:      Take the A20 (or M20 to Jun 2 then the A20) to the roundabout at Wrotham. At the roundabout take the 2nd Exit onto the A227 and follow the road into Borough Green bearing right just after crossing the railway at Borough Green Railway Station, the car park entrance is on the left hand side opposite Forman Bros Garage.

4th November

The assembly point for this Fig of 8 walk is the Public Car Park in Kemsing opposite The Bell Inn (www.thebellkemsing.com) where will have lunch around 1.15-1.30pm

Please arrive by 9.45am so lunch orders can be taken.

The morning walk will start at 10am and go through part of Kemsing to the Pilgrims Way then up across Kemsing Down through Rowden Wood and onto Paine’s Farm from here it will continue through Great Wood to Romney Street and Little East Hill Farm where it will drop down to go across Woodland Manor golf course and onto Cotman’s Hatch. From here we begin our decent back to Kemsing and the Bull Inn for Lunch. Distance 6.7 miles.

The afternoon walk will start at 2.15 approx. and go through Kemsing turning right to go through Bushy Wood and over the M26 into Cockney’s Wood and onto Tanners Cross to the church in Seal, from here we return to Kemsing via Noah’s Ark. Distance 3.3 miles.

The walks will be led by Alan Hayward.

Directions:     From Swanley take the A20 towards Brands Hatch and turn right onto the A225 just after the roundabout at the bottom of Farningham Hill. Follow the road through Farningham and Eynsford till you reach Otford. As the main road bear round to the right turn left onto Pilgrims Way East and follow the road for just over 0.9 miles then turn right (Childsbridge Lane) go down the hill then turn left into West End and follow the road into Kemsing you will see the Bull Inn on your right just after St Edith’s Road and the entrance to the car park is on the left hand side just pass the pub.

9th December

Our December All Day walk will be a Figure of 8 from Swanley Village with a lunch stop at The Lamb.

The assembly point for the walk is School Lane Swanley village.

Please arrive by 9.30am so lunch orders can be taken.

The morning walk will start at 9.45am and go through part of Swanley Village and then on to Holt’s Farm and across open farmland to Hawley. From here it will go over the M25 pass St John’s church at Sutton at Hone and on to Ship Lane then crossing the railway to Homefield Farm and skirting part of Canada Heights before crossing the railway again back to Ship Lane and onto The Lamb for Lunch.  Distance 6 miles

The afternoon walk will start at 1.30 approx. and go along footpaths to St Pauls Church (turnoff point back to the cars for those not doing the walk) and School Lane. From here it skirts Hextable going on through part of Pax Wood then Rowhill Woods and Mount before going back through Hextable and across open farmland to Swanley Village and School Lane.   Distance 3.6 miles.

The walks will be led by Alan Hayward.

Directions:

From Swanley take the B258 towards Hextable & Wilmington at Five Wents turn right into Highlands Hill and follow the road into Swanley Village .

At the junction with School Lane turn left and park down the road. The meeting point will be by the Village Notice Board at the T junction.
