2018 All-Day Walk Details

26th November 2018

The assembly Point for this Figure of 8 walk is the Greyhound pub on Keston Common (www.greyhoundkeston.co.uk). Please arrive by 9.30am so lunch orders can be taken.

The walk will be led by Russ Burton.

The morning walk will start at 9.45am and go via Nash Farm, Furze Bottom, Leaves Green and Keston Court back to the Greyhound a distance of approx. 6.4miles

Greyhound for lunch (12.45 approx.)

The afternoon walk will start at 1.45 pm approx. and go via Baston Manor, Well Wood and Nash Lane back to the Greyhound a distance of approx. 2.8 miles.

Directions: Suggested route: From Eynsford, Crockenhill or Swanley join the M25 at Junction 3 and leave at Junction 4, follow the signs for the A21 and continue on till you reach the traffic lights at Locksbottom. Bear left onto the A232 go through the next set of traffic lights and continue on for approx. 0.3 mile then turn left in to Commonside at the end of the road you will see the Greyhound on your left. For those of you that use satnav, the postcode is BR2 6BP.

The assembly point for this circular walk is the public car park in Borough Green and includes a lunch stop at the Kentish Rifleman (www.thekentishrifleman.co.uk) in Dunk’s Green.

Walk will start at 9.45am please arrive from 9.30am so that lunch orders can be taken. The walk will be led by Richard Pierce.

From the car park the walk will head towards Basted and Clay Cross then onto the Wealdway to Gover Hill (viewpoint & mid-morning break). It continues on the Wealdway then on to the Greensands Way through Roughway to Dunks Green for a lunch stop at the Kentish Rifleman pub. Distance 5.4 miles.   

After lunch the walk will leave the Kentish Rifleman and head towards Plaxtol and Yopps Green, from there it will go pass Stangate Quarry into Mill Lane past Trycewell Farm back to Borough Green. Distance 4.6 miles.

Notes: There are 3 styles and 1 bridge on the 2nd half of the morning walk and 5 styles and 2 bridges in the afternoon.

No steep climbs just rolling countryside with great views of autumn colours hopefully.

Car park £2.10 for 9hrs (may have gone up to £2.20)

Directions:Take A20 (or M20 to Jun 2 then the A20) to roundabout at Wrotham. Take the 2nd exit on roundabout (A227) and follow the road into Borough Green, bearing right just after crossing the railway bridge at Borough Green railway station. The assembley point for this fig of 8 walk is the Queens Head pub in Downe Village  (www.queensheaddowne.com). The walk will start at 9.45am please arrive from 9.30am so that lunch orders can be taken. Walk will be led by Barry & Joan Everitt.

The morning walk will be out of Downe village to Downe Court and on into Snotsdale wood, through Sow wood/West Kent Golf Club pass Biggin Hill airport and onto Holwood Farm then through part of the golf course to Green Hill then back to the Queens Head for lunch. Distance 5.8miles.

The afternoon walk will leave the Queens Head and go out of Downe towards Christmas Tree Farm and Cudham Road to Hostye Farm then onto Cudham Church and Single Street through Luxted and behind Downe House back to the Queens Head in Downe. Distance of 4.2miles.

Approx. 2.75 hours walking am and 2 hours walking pm. Lunch organised at pub for 1pm. Estimate to get there between 12.30-1.00pm

Note:   We can use the Queens Head CP it’s not that big so car sharing would be good if possible.

The assembley point for this circular walk is the Visitor Centre Car Park Shacklands Road. Andrews Wood near Badgers Mount (OS GR TQ 503616; Postcode TN14 7BD).

The walk will start at 10am please arrive from 9.30am so that lunch orders can be taken.

Distance 9.3 miles – Morning Walk 6.5 miles Afternoon Walk 2.8 miles.

The morning walk will go via Hollows Wood; Well Hill; Maypole; Hewitt’s Farm; Knockholt station, Broke Farm and Halstead for Lunch at the Rose & Crown (OS GR TQ 489611; Postcode TN14 7EA).

Afternoon walk will go via Pilot Wood and Meenfield Wood back to the Car Park in Andrew Woods:

Notes: 1.The starting point and lunch stop are only 1 mile apart so if you only want to do the morning section (or afternoon) only you can , if you don’t mind walking unaccompanied some of the way between the pub and car park (it’s on roads and you will be pointed in the right direction.

2. There are 10 stiles; Gradients are mostly gentle.

Directions: From Swanley take the M25 to Junction 4 at the 2nd roundabout stay in the inside lane at take the 1st exit (A224). At the next roundabout take the 1st exit and follow the road round until you reach the entrance to the car park which is on your RIGHT. Post Code: TN14 7BD

The assembly point for this Figure of 8 All-Day walk will be in the Car Park of the Birchwood Golf and Country Club (website: http://www.birchwoodparkgc.co.uk/). Please arrive by 9.30am so that lunch orders can be taken and placed with the Golf & Country Club.

The walk will start at 09.45am and be led by Alan Hayward.

The morning walk is 6.8 miles and will go around the edge of Joyden’s Wood into Bexley following part of the London Loop before skirting Dartford Heath and Wilmington through Puddledock back to Birchwood Golf & Country Club for lunch.

The afternoon walk will be in the region of 3 miles and will start at 2pm approx. The proposed route will go through Chalk Wood and Upper Ruxley & Timbertops Farm then through Stonehill Farm back to the club house.

Directions: From Swanley take the road towards Sidcup. At the traffic lights, just before the Bull at Birchwood (Premier Inn) / Kings Garage turn right into Birchwood Wood, follow the road for just over 0.5 mile. The entrance to the golf club is on the left-hand side follow the road to the car park.  

25th June 2018

The assembly point for this All-Day walk will be the public car park in Westerham (the one just before the NT Quebec House, post code TN16 1TD). Lunch will be at The Bricklayers Arms, Chipstead, TN13 2RZ. Please arrive by 9.45am so that lunch orders can be taken.

The morning walk will start at 10:00 hours and go into Westerham to look at some of the interesting buildings and the church it will then follow footpaths through to Brastead and Sundridge and then re-join the footpaths to Chipstead for our lunch stop, a total distance of about 4.5 miles. There will be stops along the way to look at buildings of interest as outlined in Rod Shelton's excellent book "Darenth". We should arrive for lunch about 13:00 hours.

The afternoon walk will start at 14:30 hours and will take a different route back via Willow Farm, Coombe Bank Farm and Brastead Church after which we will re-join the morning route back to Westerham, a distance of 5 miles. We should be back at 16:30. The only building of interest on this return route is Brastead Church.

The total distance is 9.5 miles and the walk be led by Bob Brickell.

Directions: Suggested route: Take the M25 at Swanley towards Sevenoaks and continue on the A21 and Jun 5, then take the 2nd second slip road to the A25 signposted Westerham the car park is on your right-hand side just before you reach Westerham. Post code for Public Car Park is TN16 1TD. Cost: £3.50 for all day parking              

4th June (May walk) 2018

This All-Day walk will be a figure of 8 walk and will start from the car park of The Woodman Pub (http://woodmanidehill.co.uk/) on Goathurst Common. Please arrive by 9.30am so lunch orders can be taken and placed with the pub.

The morning walk will start at 9.45am and head towards Brook Place before turning to go through Cordons Farm and into Ide Hill from here we head towards Boarhill and then drop down to Scollops Farm and back up to Hatchlands Farm and on to Wickhurst Manor, we continue up to Rycroft Lane and on through Hyde’s Forrest to the Woodman for lunch a distance of approx. 6.6 miles.

The afternoon walk will start at 13.45 and go through Whitley Forest and Mill Bank Wood to Dibden. From here the walk will continue through Greenlane Wood, Black Lane and Hawks wood back to the Woodman Pub a distance of approx. 3.4 miles.

Total distance is 10 miles approx. and the walk will be led by Alan Hayward.

Directions: From Swanley take the M25 south and continue on to the A21 at Jun 5 take the 2nd exit towards Sevenoaks just pass the Kings Head at Bessels Green turn right onto Bessels Green Road and continue on to the B2042 follow this road to Goathurst Common the Woodman is on the left-hand side. From Eynsford take the A225 and continue through Otford until you reach the traffic lights at the Bat and Ball. Turn right onto the A25 and continue towards Westerham just pass the pelican crossing at Riverhead Primary School turn left onto the B2042 (Cold Arbour Rd) continue on this road until you reach Goathurst Common the Woodman is on left-hand side.

This All-Day circular walk will start from the Public Car Park in Cudham (adjacent to the Blacksmiths Arms) with a lunch stop at the Three Horseshoes at Knockholt Pound. Please arrive by 9.30am so lunch orders can be taken and phoned though.

The walk will start at 9.45am and go through New Barn Farm, Grays Farm, North Downs Way (via Stoneings) to Knockholt Pound for the lunch stop at the Three Horseshoes. After lunch the route will continue to Single’s Cross, Birches Croft, Broom Wood, Mace Farm then back to the public car park at Cudham.

The total distance is 9.7 miles and the walk will be led by Alan Bodley.

Directions: From Eynsford, Crockenhill, Bromley or Swanley proceed to Green Street Green on the A21. At the roundabout turn into Cudham Road North and travel the whole length into Cudham. After passing the Blacksmith’s Arms (on the left hand side), turn left into the car park.

Note:- The route is undulating and has a few upward inclines but they are not severe or long. The last time we walked this route it had 18 stiles (11 after lunch)!

This Figure of 8 All-Day walk will start at the Woodman Pub, in Otford opposite the duck pond  where lunch will also taken. Please arrive by 9.30am for lunch orders to be taken.The walk will start at 9.45am and be led by Alan Hayward. The walk will be 2 circulars routes.

Morning route will be a 6.8mile walk via Otford, Sepham Farm up to Pollhill Bank Nature Reserve, around Fort Halstead then along part of the Darent Valley Path back into Otford and Woodman Pub for lunch (1pm approx.).

The afternoon walk will be a 3.1 mile walk which will go via Otford Church along part of the North Downs Way then pass Paine’s Farm up to Fackenden Down (with great views of Otford & Darent Valley) then back down into Otford and the Woodman Pub.

Directions: From Swanley take the A20 coast bound turn right onto the A225 and follow the road into Otford The pub is on  the righthand at the Duck Pond roundabout. You need to go round the roundabout for the entrance to the car park.    Post Code: TN14 45PQ

Please Note: The Woodman Car Park is not that big so Car Sharing would be advantageous – There is alternative parking in the public pay & display car park in the village.

The assembly point for this cicrular All-Day walk will be the café attached to the Holy Trinity Church in Dartford. Please arrive by 9.00–9.15am so lunch orders can be taken. The lunch stop will be at the Pier Head Hotel, Greenhithe Village DA9 9NN.

The walk will start at 09:30 with a quick look around the church as it has some interesting fact. It will then follow the Darenth Valley Path to the Thames following the river path under the QEII bridge and along to Greenhithe for lunch at the Pier Hotel (13.00-13-15), a distance of 7.3 miles. The afternoon walk back will start at 14:30 hours and be the shortest route back to Dartford, a distance of 3.3 miles.

This "mid bleak winter" walk in the Dartford Marshes will be led by Bob Brickell.

This is the 4th and final part of the Darenth walk which Bob has been leading over the last 2 years and on route will be pointing out interesting facts and history as detailed in Rod Shelton’s book ‘Darenth’.

Directions and Parking: Follow the one-way system around Dartford and when you reach Dartford town bridge turn right over the bridge and then left into Acacia court through the iron gates and follow the route around to the car park. Walk back and cross the road to Holy Trinity Church café. For those of you that use satnav, the postcode is DA1 1DJ.

Note:   There is no suitable free parking in the area so it will be better to car share if possible. Parking in the Acacia Hall car park is £5 per day.
