2016 Extended Walks Details

28th November 2016

The assembly Point for this Figure of 8 walk is the Greyhound pub (www.greyhoundkeston.co.uk) on Keston Common. Please arrive by 9.30am so that lunch orders can be taken.

The walk be led by Russ Burton.

The morning walk will start at 9.45am and follow a route to Nash then on through Well Wood towards Coney Hall and across Hayes Common back to the Greyhound for lunch (12.45 approx.) a distance of approx. 6 miles

The afternoon walk will start at 1.45 pm approx. and will follow a route across part of Hayes Common through Colyers Wood onto Keston then around Keston Common back to the Greyhound a distance of approx. 3 miles.

Directions: Suggested route: From Eynsford, Crockenhill or Swanley join the M25 at Junction 3 and leave at Junction 4, follow the signs for the A21 and continue on till you reach the traffic lights at Locksbottom. Bear left onto the A232 go through the next set of traffic lights and continue on for approx. 0.3 mile then turn left in to Commonside at the end of the road you will see the Greyhound on your left. For those of you that use satnav, the postcode is BR2 6BP.

31st October 2016

The next extended walk will be on Monday 31th October 2016 with a lunch stop at the Five Bells (www.thefivebells-chelsfieldvillage.co.uk) in Chelsfield Village. The assembly point is the public car park in Andrews Wood Shacklands Road, Badgers Mount. Please arrive by 9.30am so that lunch orders can be taken.

The walk will start at 9.50am and follow a route through Andrews Wood Meenfield Wood, Halstead and Knockholt to Chelsfield for lunch (Five Bells). The return walk will be through Maypole, Hollows Wood, Badgers Mount, Jenkins Neck Wood and Andrews Wood.

The distance is 9.5 miles approx. and will be led by Alan Hayward

Directions: From Eynsford, Crockenhill or Swanley join the M25 at Junction 3 and leave at Junction 4, follow the spur road to the roundabout. Take the 1st exit (A224) at the next roundabout again take the 1st exit into Shacklands Road. The car park is approx. 400yds on the right. For those of you that use satnav, the nearest postcode is TN14 7BD which is for the road just before the entrance to the car park coming from the roundabout on the A224

26th September 2016

The next extended walk will be on Monday 26th September 2016 with a lunch stop at the Kentish Rifleman (www.thekentishrifleman.co.uk) in Dunk’s Green. The assembly point for the walk is the public car park in Borough Green. Please arrive by 9.45am so lunch orders can be taken.

The walk will start at 10am and go through Borough Green, and onto Firemanshaw Wood, passing through industrial estate and into the pleasant village of Platt and then onto the Greensands Way through Shipborne forest. It will then continue pass Broadfield Farm and on into Dunks Green for lunch at the Kentish Rifleman. After lunch the walk will continue into Plaxtol and on through Yopps Green, Brookside Farm, Basted and Basted House back to the car park in Borough Green. The distance is 10miles (6 in the morning, 4 in the afternoon) and will be led by Richard Pierce.

Notes: There is 1 style in the morning followed by walking the plank! In the afternoon there are 6 styles (4 in quick succession) and 3 bridges. In Borough Green there are public toilets close to the car park.

Directions:           Take the A20 (or M20 to Jun 2 then the A20) to the roundabout at Wrotham. At the roundabout take the 2nd Exit onto the A227 and follow the road into Borough Green bearing right just after crossing the railway at Borough Green Railway Station, the car park entrance is on the left hand side opposite Forman Bros Garage.

5th Sept 2016 (Aug walk)

The next extended walk will be on Monday 5th September 2016 and will be a Fig of 8 from the assembly point outside the Sydney Arms (www.sydneyarms.com) in Old Perry Street Chislehurst. Please arrive by 9.45am so lunch orders can be taken. The walk will start at 10am and be led by Alan Bodley.

The walk will consist of 2 circular walks one in the morning and the other in the afternoon after lunch.

The morning walk (Blue Line) will go across parts of Chislehurst Common to Botany Bay Lane, then on to Thornet Wood and through Jubilee Park then on into parts of Petts Wood and Ice House Woods to the Sydney Arms a distance of 7 miles.

The afternoon walk (Red Line) will be a circluar from the Sydney Arms around Scadbury Park a distance of 3miles.

Directions:   Take the A20 to the Frognal Corner roundabout (Queens Mary’s Hospital) then turn left on to A222 towards Chislehurst. Just past the BP Garage turn left into Old Perry Street. The Sydney Arms is on the right hand side.

25th July 2016

The next extended walk is on Monday 25th July 2016. It will be a fig of 8 from the assembly point in the Car Park of the Queens Head Pub (www.queensheaddowne.com) in Downe Village. Please arrive by 9.45am so that lunch orders can be taken and placed to avoid delay at lunch time.

The walk will start at 10am and be led by Barry & Joan Everitt.

The walk will be 2 circular walks one in the morning the other in the afternoon after lunch.

The morning walk (Orange line) will be out of Downe village to Green Hill then along the side of the valley to Holwood Farm returning on the other side of the valley next to Biggin Hill Airport then through Sow wood, Snotsdale wood and onto Downe Court before returning to the Queens Head a distance of 5.8miles.

The afternoon walk (Blue Line) will leave the Queens Head and go out towards The Rockery and onto North End Farm through part of High Elms and Cuckoo Wood back to the Queens Head in Downe a distance of 3.6miles.

Directions: From J4 4 on M25 follow the signpost for Biggin Hill Airport then Downe (or use the Queens Head Website for directions). The Queens head is in the centre of the village. Post code is BR6 7US                                                     Map Ref 432617

Note:      We can use the Queens Head CP however it’s not that big so car sharing would be good if possible.

27th June 2016

The next extended walk is on Monday 27th June 2016 and includes a lunch stop at The Blue Anchor (no website but they do have a Facebook page) in Platt. The assembly point is the public car park in Offham. Please arrive in good time so lunch orders can be taken.

The walk will start at 9.45am and be led by Alan Hayward.

The route will take us through the village of Offham then on through Offham Wood, Great Leybourne Wood and Roadside Wood. It then crosses 7 Mile Lane and continues through Hurst Wood and past Keeper’s Cottage into Shipbourne Forest. From here it continues into Platt and The Blue Anchor Pub (6.5 miles) for lunch. The afternoon route will continue through Platt and then pick up the Wealdway through Wrotham Heath then on through part of Addington, Moorlands Wood back to the car park in Offham (10.5 miles).

Directions: From Eynsford, Crockenhill or Swanley, take the A20 to Wrotham Heath. Go through the traffic lights and at the next roundabout turn right into 7 Mile Lane. Go under the railway bridge and turn left into Teston Road. Follow this road into the village of Offham. The car park is on left hand side just past the Methodist Church & Football Pitch.

6th June (May Walk)

The next extended walk will be on Monday 6th June 2016 and includes a lunch stop at the Woodman Pub (www.thewoodmanotford.co.uk), in Otford opposite the duck pond TN14 5PQ. The assembly point will be the Car Park of the Woodman Pub. Please arrive in plenty of time for lunch orders to be taken.

The walk will start at 10am and be led by Alan Hayward.

The walk will be 2 circulars routes – The morning route will be a 6.8 mile walk via Otford, Sepham Farm up to Pollhill Bank Nature Reserve, around Fort Halstead and along part of the Darent Valley Path back into Otford and the Woodman Pub for lunch (1pm approx.).

The afternoon walk will be a 3.1 mile walk which will go via Otford Church and along the North Downs Way pass Paine’s Farm up to Fackenden Down (with great views of Otford & Darent Valley) then back down into Otford and the Woodman Pub.

Directions: From Swanley take the A20 then the A225 into Otford The pub is just of the Duck Pond roundabout.

NOTE: The Car Park is not that big so Car Sharing would be advantageous

25th April 2016

The next extended walk is on Monday 25th April 2016 and includes a lunch stop at Ye Olde Leather Bottle (www.theleatherbottle.pub) in Cobham. The assembly point is Ye Olde Leather Bottle car park in Cobham. Please arrive in good time so lunch orders can be taken.

The walk will start at 9.45am and be led by Alan Hayward.

The walk will be 2 circular routes – The morning route will be a 7 miles route across the undulating North Downs via Sole Street, Henley Wood, Luddesdown, Cobhambury Wood and Hill back to Cobham and Ye Olde Leather Bottle.

Lunch will be at 12.45 approx.

The afternoon route is a 3.5mile walk which will take in part of Jeskyns Country Park, Ashenbank Wood and part of the Cobham Hall Estate before returning through Ashenbank Wood to Ye Olde Leather Bottle.

Directions: From Eynsford, Crockenhill, Orpington or Swanley, join the M25 to Junction 2 and take the A2 towards Dover. Exit the A2 for Gravesend (E). At the roundabout turn right and go over the A2 and follow the signposts for Sole Street on entering the village of Cobham Ye Olde Leather Bottle is on the Left Hand.

4th April 2016 (March Walk)

The next extended walk will be on Monday 4th April 2016 with a lunch stop at the Harrow Inn, Harrow Road Knockholt Pound, TN14 7JT (www.harrowinn.net). The assembly point is the Harrow Inn Car Park which is opposite the pub. Please arrive between 9.30 am and 9.45 am so that lunch orders can be taken.

The walk will start at 10.00am and the walk leader will be Alan Hayward.

The walk will be 2 circular routes – The morning route will be 6.6 miles approx. and take a route towards Fort Halstead before dropping down to the Old Grove and then on to Chevening Church. From here the route will climb up through Park Wood and onto the North Downs Way back to Knockholt Pound for Lunch (1pm approx.).

The afternoon route will be 4 miles approx. and take a route towards Single’s Cross and then pass by Blueberrys Farm and on through Hayman’s Wood to the Washneys. From here the route will climb towards Rushmore Hill Farm and then back to Knockholt Pound.

Directions: From Eynsford, Crockenhill, or Swanley, take the M25 going south and leave at Junction 4 at the following roundabout take the 3rd exit signposted A21 until you reach the next roundabout at Pratts Bottom. Take the 1st Exit (Rushmore Hill) and follow the road to Knockholt Pound. Take the 2nd turning on the left (Signposted Dunton Green & Sevenoaks) follow the road the car park is on the left hand side opposite the Harrow Inn.

29th February 2016

The next extended walk is on Monday 29th February 2016 and will include a stop for lunch at the Royal Oak www.royaloakcrockamhill.co.uk Crockham Hill TN8 6RD Map Ref:       TQ442505

The assembly point is the car park at Hosey Common in Hosey Hill (B2026). Please arrive between 9.30 to 9.45am so lunch orders can be taken

The walk will start at 10am and the walk leader will be Alan Bodley.

The total distance is 8.5miles approx.

The morning walk will be from Hosey Common to French Street, Weardale Manor, Obriss Farm, Coachmans and Crockham Hill, (lunch at the Royal Oak). The return route takes in Crockham Hill Common and Squerryes Park.

Directions: From Eynsford, Crockenhill, Orpington or Swanley, join the A21/M25 going south. Exit from the A21 by the A25 turnoff for Westerham. 25th January 2016

The next extended walk will be on Monday 25th January 2016 with a lunch stop at the Bricklayers Arms, Chipstead, TN13 2R7, www.the-bricklayers-arms.co.uk. The assembly point is the car park in Filston Lane in Shoreham. Please arrive between 9.30 am and 9.45 am so that lunch orders can be taken.

The walk will start at 10.00am and the walk leader will be Bob Brickell.

It will be a circular route of 9.91 miles in total, approx. 6 miles to lunch stop.

The morning walk will be through Shoreham Village following the Darenth Valley Path through Otford, Dunton Green, alongside Nature Reserve Lake, Riverhead, and alongside Longford Lake to Chipstead where we will have lunch at the Bricklayers Arms. The afternoon walk will follow the Darent Valley Path, the other side of Longford Lake, through Witton to Filston Lane and back to the car park.

Directions: From Eynsford or Crockenhill join the A225 going south. At Shoreham Station, turn right into Station Rd and continue across the bridge into Church Street. Follow road to the end turn left into Filston Lane. The car park is 50m on the left.

Note: The car park is not very big and can be busy so car sharing is a good idea
